I first started collecting GPK back in 1985, but due to parental influence and a frustrating lack of legal tender, I was never really able to obtain a good collection. In 1986 and 1987, when Topps released their 3rd through 9th series…I really started to expand my collection. I remember saving my money, and buying as many packs as I could afford at my local Osco Drug…and then trading them with kids in my neighborhood or at school. Put simply - I was hooked. Then, as I grew older, and other interests started to creep into my life, I put my collection in a box - and that box went into the basement.
However, even though my GPK were out of sight, they were not out of mind, and I found myself flipping through them on occasion when I wanted to stroll down memory lane. Each time I did, the images on the cards warped me back to a simpler time - a time where life was 'stress-free'…a time when the big questions were who's house we were going to after school, or what movie we were going to see on Friday night. It was my own time-machine, and I loved each journey it took me on.
Warp ahead 25+ years and I find myself happily married, with 3 kids, 2 dogs and a wonderful house…yet I still get that same wave of nostalgia each time I flip through the cards. Starting in late 2005 I set out to complete my Master Collection, striving to obtain every card ever printed…every variation available…every GPK item I could put my hands on. Without the internet, this would not be possible…but through eBay and forums, etc I have been able to take my collection leaps and bounds beyond what I ever thought possible. So please, feel free to browse through my collection that has taken, in a sense, most of my life to complete. Hope you enjoy!!
So, since I take a lot of pride in my collection - and since I get so much enjoyment out of it - I decided I really wanted to display it so I can look at it whenever I want. The problem is, I don't have the space to display all of my items - nor do I want to set aside an entire room in my house as a 'GPK Shrine'…that just seems to be taking it a little too far. That's when it hit me - I have a fairly decent digital camera…and a good-enough computer…why don't I put some pictures on the web? So, I started uploading a few pictures and was instantly aware that I was only scratching the surface. Wasting little time - I began creating pages and taking pictures like a crazed person, and I began to realize I was going to need more 'room'. So, I purchased this domain, started building my site, and the rest is history.
ALL OF THE PICTURES ON THIS SITE ARE OF ITEMS FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION.
Put simply…if you see it on this site, then I own it. I will constantly be making updates to this site - so please check back often. I hope you enjoy viewing my collection as much as I enjoy building it!!
Over the years this site has enjoyed FOUR major designs. What started out with a few frames and pages has ballooned into over 250 pages. Each layout I have worked with over the years has been designed to not only provide collectors with a handy resource, but also to try and make it as current as possible in terms of web design/etc. This new layout offers a number of advantages over the previous design, including (but not limited to):
Just for fun, here's a few screenshots that illustrate the progression of geepeekay.com through the years…
